Arvinda's Healthy Gourmet Indian Cooking started with only a few simple ingredients ~ inspiration, culinary passion and hard work. Arvinda Chauhan has been cooking Indian cuisine since the age of seven and has a passion for cooking ever since. Having worked in another profession, Arvinda realized she was not putting her culinary aspirations to good use. Arvinda also an artist, viewed cooking as an art form which was more reason for her to hone both her artistic and culinary passions into one endeavour.
To master the complexities of Indian cuisine can take a lifetime. Arvinda will share with you authentic Indian dishes, recipes, culture and traditions from her life-long experience she has acquired since her childhood. Indian cooking techniques, traditions and philosophy are passed from generation to generation which are reflected through our classes, showing you the real essence of Indian cuisine.
Sessions are relaxed, fun and hands-on. At the beginning of each session, handouts are given out. At the end of each session, you will be able to enjoy our delicious creations. All your former impressions that Indian cooking is overspiced, greasy and too laborious to prepare at home will be quickly faded, as these sessions will show the real essence of authentic Indian cooking.
Our classes emphasize that simple home-style Indian cooking can be healthy, nutritious, and economical. There are several styles of cooking to choose from, each more delectable then the next!
We welcome you to our kitchen to show you the true spirit of Indian hospitality. India, having the largest country of vegetarians in the world, offers a vast number of vegetarian dishes. For example take a simple potato; it can be created into a hundred recipes just by adding wonderful aromatic Indian spices. We have 60 varieties of lentils and legumes, which can be created into endless mouth-watering dishes.
We will show you how to creatively combine spices to make authentic dishes. These spices are not only used for flavoring, preservation and aroma, but is also used for their medicinal properties, which in Western world we are just finding out. In Indian philosophy, we believe what you eat is a reflection of your mental and spiritual self. Sattvic foods include wholesome and natural food that boosts life and longevity. These foods represent purity, strength, health, joy and happiness in combination with yoga and meditation.
We are conveniently located less then 30 minutes from Toronto and 45 minutes from Niagara region, in close proximity to both the 403 and QEW.
